Chapter Twelve

Wynter was sitting on the floor by her front door, shaking. She was still trying to process the fact that her best friend was gone. She really thought that once she found out Joelle was alive and well that they would be able to resolve their problems. A part of her understood why Joelle felt the way she was feeling and wanted to forgive her. She would never have the chance now.

The ringing of her bell startled her and caused her to shake more. After realizing it was just the doorbell, she slowly rose to see who it was. She peered out the glass window on the side of the door and saw that it was Rico. The two of them still weren’t on the best of terms but they were cordial and both had hopes that things would be better before the baby arrived. He was the last person she wanted to see after finding his sister dead and debating on whether or not she was going to keep it a secret. Maybe Rico and Joaquin found Joelle’s body and that’s why he was there.

She opened the door and was met by cold glassy eyes. Cautiously, she stepped back and allowed Rico space to walk into the house. He closed the door and locked it before turning to face Wynter.

“Why are you here? You didn’t call or anything,” Wynter said, trying to pretend everything was normal, as if she wasn’t just bawling her eyes out just a few minutes earlier.

“Wynter, why did you do it?” Rico asked in a monotone, with a blank stare plastered on his face.

She was right; he found out about Joelle’s demise and actually had the balls to accuse her of being the culprit. Although she knew there was nothing to hide, especially since she really didn’t have anything to do with JoJo’s death, she still decided to play as if she had no idea.

“What are you talking about Rico? I didn’t do anything.” Wynter defended herself.

“Don’t fucking lie to me. You just had to kill her. I stood by you after a lot of fucked up shit you did but this. This shit right here!” Rico barked, while slamming his fist into the wall breaking a hole in the sheetrock.

Wynter decided playing dumb wasn’t going to help the situation any, and decided to be honest about it.

“Rico, I would never kill her! We had our problems but I loved her like a sister, I would have never hurt her like that. I can’t believe you have the audacity to come here and accuse me of that,” she admitted.

Rico was perplexed and the confusion was written on his face.

“What the fuck are you talking about? You loved her like a sister? Are you serious right now? You just tried to fucking kill her a few weeks back, now ya’ll besties?” he barked, still a little confused by Wynter admission.

Now it was Wyn’s turn to be puzzled.

“I never told you I wanted to kill Joelle. Rico what the fuck?”

Rico was never granted the opportunity to respond.
